Bryan’s Road, Maryland - The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) is profoundly troubled by the crisis at the Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC), reports of the arbitrary closure of a radio station in Harbel, Margibi County, and the issues relative to a memo allegedly written by First Secretary Christopher Nippy of the Liberian Embassy in Washington, D.C. as reported by the “Frontpage Africa” online news magazine.
The Union wishes to inform the public that consistent with the policy of the present National Administration, the official inquiry of the Union on these disturbing developments has been conveyed to the Government of Liberia and the Embassy of Liberia near Washington DC. An official letter of inquiry highlighting the Union ’s serious concern over these unfolding developments has been sent to the Liberian Leader, President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. It is the hope of the Union that appropriate action will be taken by both the Government of Liberia and Embassy in the soonest possible time.
The Union further asserts that it attaches immense significance to these three troubling developments and will continue to work assiduously to ensure that actions of those who stand against peace and progress will not go with impunity. The Union also reaffirms its commitment to freedom of speech, association and conscience and views these as sine qua non to our democracy.
Accordingly, the Union assures all Liberians that it will spare no resources in combating the spread of misinformation; distortion and mischief as a form of suppressing dissent.
